The Breief
FABtotum Personal Fabricator is a multifunction desktop manufacturing platform that combines additive and subtractive fabrication technologies in a single machine. The system supports 3D printing, CNC milling, laser engraving, and 3D scanning through a modular head architecture, enabling rapid prototyping and small-scale manufacturing in a compact desktop device. The product was developed as an open hardware platform and successfully launched through a crowdfunding campaign, gaining significant attention from the maker and rapid-prototyping communities.
Scope of Work
Industrial design and mechanical engineering of the machine enclosure and structural components, including development of the mechanical architecture and optimization for manufacturability. The work included injection molding design for production parts and identification of manufacturing partners for tooling and production. Support was also provided during the crowdfunding campaign, helping translate the concept into a production-ready hardware product.
