Portable 3D Facial Scanner for Digital Dentistry
The Breief
ObiScanner is a portable facial scanning system designed for digital dentists to quickly acquire a high-resolution 3D model of a patient’s face. The device enables workflows such as digital smile design, orthodontic analysis, and treatment planning by integrating facial scans with intra-oral and CBCT data. The hardware needed a compact, ergonomic, and production-ready enclosure suitable for clinical environments while accommodating optical components and electronics.
Scope of Work
Industrial design and mechanical engineering of the device enclosure, including mechanical architecture and part development. The work included design for injection molding, structural optimization, and identification of suitable manufacturing partners for tooling and production.
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Ergonomic industrial design for clinical environments
Mechanical architecture for optical system alignment
Injection molding design optimized for tooling and production
Manufacturing partner coordination for low- to medium-volume production
Iterative prototyping to validate ergonomics and mechanics

A lightweight, ergonomic hardware enclosure optimized for manufacturability and clinical usability. The final design supports reliable integration of scanning hardware while enabling scalable production through injection-molded components.
